For the past year and a half, Northern Kentucky indie rockers Come Here Watson have been climbing their way up the ladder of Greater Cincinnati’s bustling local music scene. The band is comprised of guitarist/lead vocalist Ethan Rankin, guitarist/backing vocalist Jake Motz, bass guitarist Ben Moore, and drummer Tyler Bennett. Rankin, Motz, and Bennett are graduates of Simon Kenton High School in Independence while Moore attended Dixie Heights in Crestview Hills.
The band members describe their sound as “noisy indie rock”. Influences range from classic rockers The Police, to more current artists such as The Strokes, Modest Mouse, Interpol, Tokyo Police Club and Arctic Monkeys. Thus far, that sound has earned them billing at many venues, including local music scene meccas the Mad Hatter and Southgate House. They also were invited to participate in the Clifton Heights Music Festival. At these venues, Come Here Watson has had the distinction of playing with local giants The Pomegranates, as well as national acts Electric Six and Marcy Playground, who once had a number one hit on the Billboard Modern Rock Tracks chart for fifteen straight weeks.
Ethan, Jake, Ben, and Tyler are hopeful that their music is something they can play for a living, but understand that is not a guarantee. As such, all four are currently pursuing degrees – Rankin in Marketing, Motz in Broadcasting, Bennett in Science, and Moore leaning towards Criminal Justice. Band members also expressed their interest in comics and skating, but admit that finding time for those hobbies is difficult.
When asked what the band enjoyed most about their music, this is what they had to say, “It’s all about playing the show. We try to have as much fun as possible and get the crowd to have as much fun as possible. If no one’s having fun, what’s going to keep them coming back?”
Come Here Watson invites you to come out and have fun with them on January 27th at The Madison Theater. You can also find them on Facebook and Twitter, as well as sign up for their mailing list on ReverbNation.com. Come Here Watson’s professionally recorded EP, Eager Girl(s), is available on ITunes or Amazon.com and features four tracks.
